Action Communities
Please note that these are all BGP Large Communities, as defined in RFC8092.
Well-known communities
We will interpret the well-known communities for no-export (65535:65281) which will prevent announcements outside of our network and no-advertise (65535:65282) which will prevent internal route propagation within our network. The no-export-subconfed (65535:65283) community does not apply to our network, and will behave identically to no-export.
Local Preference
By default all received customer routes are assigned a local preference of 700 in the NELLICUS Backbone. Customers have the ability to alter this local preference using the following BGP communities:
| Community | Local Pref | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 61961:1200:700 | 700 | Default Customer LOCAL PREF |
| 61961:1200:690 | 690 | Backup route for multi-homed customers to Nellicus |
| 61961:1200:500 | 500 | Sets local preference equal to peering routes (bilateral, route-server, and private IX VLAN) |
| 61961:1200:400 | 400 | Sets local preference equal to transit routes |
| 61961:1200:390 | 390 | Lowest available value; for customers multi-homed to other providers, ensuring an externally-learned path to this customer (via transit or peering) is preferred over this direct session |
Route Prepending
The use of these communities allow a customer to AS Path Pad advertisements to all or a subset of NELLICUS Peers.
| Community | Description |
|---|---|
| 61961:1010:101 | Prepend x1 to ALL PEERS |
| 61961:1011:peer asn | Prepend x1 to AS XXX |
| 61961:1010:102 | Prepend x2 to ALL PEERS |
| 61961:1012:peer asn | Prepend x2 to AS XXX |
| 61961:1010:103 | Prepend x3 to ALL PEERS |
| 61961:1013:peer asn | Prepend x3 to AS XXX |
